Self-Care begins in the morning

by Joanna Konstantopoulou

Are you one of those people who set multiple alarms, has to be dragged out of bed and skips breakfast? All of these things can be bad for self-care and daily motivation. The best way to have a successful day is to start it off in the right way; if your morning is good, then this positive thinking will follow you throughout the rest of the day.

I have listed few easy lifestyle changes you can make to improve your self-care and motivation in the morning, which everyone should do.

1. Don’t set multiple alarms

By setting and ignoring alarms, you are encouraging your body and mind to delay the day, which translates into a general negative feeling about getting up. Instead of putting off the inevitable, get up when your alarm goes off and ignore that snooze button! If you usually reset the alarm for 10 minutes, just set it for 10 minutes later than usual. You will find that the extra time spent asleep without the alarm interrupting you will be of a higher quality, and you will get out of bed feeling more alert.

2. Always eat breakfast

You should always eat when you wake up, even if you don’t feel hungry. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day, and sets you up with the fuel and energy needed to start the day. After fasting for the night, your blood sugar will be low, and even a small breakfast of fruit or natural cereals will help your mind and body become more focused, allowing you to power through your morning with ease

3. Take time to plan your day

Having a schedule to work to can be a great way of organising your thoughts, and ensuring that you have a productive day, ensuring you get the most from it. Not only will having and sticking to a plan mean you get all the jobs done, but you will finish the day with feelings of pride and satisfaction. Even taking just a few minutes in the morning to make plans will help you to organise your thoughts and increase your motivation to do these tasks.
