2 ways to boost your self -confidence

by Joanna Konstantopoulou

The world is full of things that knock your confidence. Whether it is a breakup, an application rejection, or an inability to lose those last 5 pounds, maintaining self-confidence in a world of setbacks can prove difficult. However, you don’t have to let these things continue to negatively influence you; with a little help, it can be easy to boost your self-confidence, brushing over life’s hardships and bouncing back quickly. Here are two of the best scientifically proven methods that our experts promote, allowing you to gain the confidence you need for life’s next challenge.

1. Talk positively

Pep talks and affirmation of your skills and abilities can be a great way to boost your confidence, even when these talks come from within. Next time you face a rejection, it is worth considering all the positives that lead you to your current position, including actively talking about skills you have and the achievements you have made.

It can also be helpful to write a ‘today I accomplished’ list, in order to build your confidence every day by understanding and recognising the good parts of each day.

2. Exercise

While this may seem unlikely, it has been scientifically proven that exercise is critical to boosting your self-confidence. By exercising, your brain releases dopamine, which is essentially the chemical which regulates happiness, and greater amounts of dopamine floating around your system have positive effects on your mood and confidence.

With regular exercise, you can also see the improvements you make, whether that be in your physical appearance, or within the exercise itself, which reaffirms that the effort you put into an activity does lead to positive results. While it may be difficult to build exercise into your day, even just small amounts of increased activity can have positive benefits – even just getting up from your desk and walking around the office has been shown to help boost confidence levels.
